T.A.F.F. Delegate Extraordinary. In 1961, when I went to Seattle for their Worldcon, I was a bit startled to find that Wally had written a page in the Programme Booklet to, as he claimed, 'introduce me' to the Convention members. I never dreamed then that I would be given the opportunity to return the compliment. For this chance I am indebted to Ethel Lindsay who suggested I might like to reciprocate. I would! I warn you. Wally Weber is very deceptive. He is tall, thin, bespectacled, and looks studious; almost absent-minded. He also gives an impression of indolence. Don't you believe it. Wally is a Founder Member of the Seattle SF club, The Nameless Ones; has been their Hon. Sec./Treas. for ever, or so it seems. He has long been associated with the local HUGO winning fanzine, CRY. In his time Wally has been Editor, Circulation Manager, and is currently in charge of the 'Letterhack' section known as CRY of the Readers. To some he is known as "The Butcher" for his work in this capacity. Ask him what the letters "SCoaW" mean in his life....then duck! Wally is a well-known figure at Conventions. He has been to England before, in 1957, when the Worldcon was first brought to London. He has been ranked, more than once, No. 1. in the 'Most Humorous Writer' SAPS poll and is much loved for his lack of 'side'. He it was that steered the 20th Worldcon in Seattle to its successful conclusion; providing vast entertainment as its Chairman in the process. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that he made do on very little sleep while the many preparations were in progress. I can't speak for now, after all, it's been almost three years since last I saw him, but he used to have a large number of hobbies over and above fandom. Whether he has been able to maintain that pace, I don't know. Oh yes, he reads SF too. Wally has managed,in his quiet way, to feed the rumour that he doesn't court the attention of girls, yet I can't think of anyone who spends his time at conventions surrounded by as many girls as does Wally. Maybe it's the challenge he presents to them. It is going to be a nice convention with Wally here. Not only for those of you meeting him for the first time, but also for those of us who already know him. I sincerely hope he has as enjoyable a time over here as we shall in having him. In spite of my better judgement, I have to admit Wally Weber is a Good Man. Have fun, Wally. Nice to see you. Ella Parker (SCoaW).

'SCoaW' stands for "stupid cow of a woman", an insult Wally once used against Ella during an argument in a fanzine. That they later became good friends is a testament to both of them - Rob.
